Craft Brewer Coming To Alameda Point
Faction Brewing, a new micro craft brewery founded by Rodger Davis of Triple Rock Brewing, just signed a lease for an airplane hangar next to St. Georges Spirits on Alameda Point.
Davis already owns the brewing equipment but it's still in New York. Faction was looking at another location in Richmond but now, having decided on Alameda Point, this area is becoming a full-fledged tasting district, as Rock Wall Wines and St. Georges Spirits (Hangar One Vodka) are on the same block.

How to volunteer your boat for America's Cup
The following was forwarded to us from PICYA:
If you enjoy volunteering on the water, ACRM is seeking Course Marshals for the America's Cup events in 2012 and 2013. The ideal candidate should have or have access to a 18'-28' RIB or whaler, live in San Francisco or the greater Bay Area, and have their Safe Powerboat Handling certification.
There will be two Safe Powerboat Handling courses offered this February at Cal Maritime Academy: February 11-12 and February 18-19. Attached is a flyer with more information.
Click here to find the class in the online course catalogue under February 2012 (titled Safe Powerboat Handling for America’s Cup Course Marshals), and click the arrow to register. If you already have your Safe Powerboat Handling certification, you do not need to take this class.
There will be an orientation closer to each America's Cup event to go over information specific to Course Marshaling.
In addition to on water volunteers, America's Cup is seeking volunteers for several aspects of the events. If you would like to be involved, please fill out the application form at the following link: www.americascup.com/connect

Alameda continues push for America's Cup business
As the world's most skilled sailors set their sights on winning the America's Cup on San Francisco Bay next year, city of Alameda officials are hoping to catch the financial windfall generated in their wake.
The race is projected to pump $1 billion into the Bay Area economy by September 2013, when the Louis Vuitton Cup takes place and the race culminates with the Oracle Racing Team defending its trophy in the finals.
The San Francisco waterfront, where officials are planning to build an 88,000-square-foot cruise ship terminal and walking plaza for spectators at Pier 27, will attract most of the spinoff business, with local merchants expected to offer everything from specials on accommodation to souvenir T-shirts.
But as an island that boasts eight marinas and a host of shoreline facilities that offer boat repairs and other maritime services, Alameda could attract racing teams, as well as fans just looking for a good vantage point, advocates say. Read more »
