Alamedan Weighs In At San Francisco Board of Supervisors Meeting

Alameda AC34 committee member John Platt weighed in at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors meeting on January 24, 2012. Platt was one of many pro-America's Cup speakers urging the Board to approve the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) so construction and other planning projects can move forward. The EIR was approved but not without some caveats.

The Dolphin Club, an open water swimming organization, strongly opposed the Jumbotron at Aquatic Park. The America's Cup Event Authority relented and agreed to not put a Jumbotron at that location.

An amendment to the measure, which passed unanimously 10-0, requires further environmental reports on key items such as the power generation at Pier 70.

Supervisors Campos and Alviso also raised strong questions regarding the City's exposure to additional financial liabilities which will be adressed at an upcoming finance meeting in February.

According to Platt, this financial meeting, the Pier 70 deal, and a full agreement with the Parks Service are the last major hurdles. But with this EIR approval yesterday, construction along San Francisco's water can begin now.
