Alameda America's Cup Committee

History and Purpose

Alameda's America's Cup Committee was put together by City Council to capitalize on the maritime tourism surrounding the 34th America's Cup to support Alameda businesses, improve Alameda's reputation as a vibrant maritime community, and improve Alameda's infrastructure and appeal as a tourist destination.

Meetings are usually held on the 1st thursday of every month and are open to the public. Meeting times and minutes are posted on the City of Alameda's committee page.

What it is and what is isn't.

The America's Cup Committee is a group of volunteers that has come together to help identify opportunities and synergies for Alameda as the 34th America's Cup comes to our back yard. While we are sponsored by the city, we do not have any real authority or, to put it bluntly, money to spend on improvement projects.

What we can do is help individuals and businesses get involved with the cooperation from the City Government. As Mayor Gilmore says, this is a public-private partnership that requires citizens and business to step up and make something happen. If you have ideas, we'd love to hear from you.

Goals - Some things we'd like to see come out of this....

Alameda becomes the East Bay Gateway to America's Cup *** Event tourists will stick around Alameda for a little bit, maybe eat or see a movie. *** Organizations involved with AC34 will set up base, offices, or housing here in Alameda. *** Alameda's sailing businesses and community get a boost. *** See improved access and development along Alameda's waterfront. *** Try to jump start a Community Sailing Center at Alameda Point. *** Put Alameda on the map as a maritime center and destination. *** And so much more....
